Moving to Reflect Open

Reflect Open is a new app, not an update to Reflect Classic. Moving your notes makes a copy: nothing in your Reflect Classic account is changed or deleted, and edits made afterwards do not sync between the two apps. There is no deadline to move.

How Reflect Open is different

Open source. The app's source code is public on GitHub under the MIT license. Anyone can read it.
Your notes are plain files. Reflect Open saves each note as a Markdown file in a folder you own. Sync it with iCloud Drive or GitHub, and open it with any app.

Step 1: Export from Reflect Classic

Open Reflect Classic. You can use either the Mac app or the web app at reflect.app.
Go to Settings → Graph → Export.
Keep the format set to Reflect Open (the default) and click Export notes. A .zip file is downloaded.

Step 2: Import into Reflect Open

Download and install Reflect Open for Mac from this link.
Open Reflect Open. On the Welcome to Reflect screen, create a new graph. We recommend iCloud, which also makes your notes available on iPhone. You can also choose A folder you choose to keep the graph in any folder on your Mac.
Go to Settings → Import and click Import zip.... Select the .zip file you exported in Step 1.
Wait for the import to finish. Your notes and attachments are added to the graph, and nothing already in the graph is replaced.

What gets imported

Daily notes and regular notes
Attachments and images
Links, backlinks, tags, and Markdown tasks
Pinned notes

Not imported: account settings, integrations, AI conversations, note history, and published URLs.

What happens to my subscription?

If you have an existing paid Reflect Classic subscription, it will roll over to Reflect Open—no changes needed.

With Reflect Open, we are only charging for the iOS and iPad apps. When you first open these apps, you will be prompted to sign in with your Reflect Classic account, which will port your subscription over.
